Tamayura is an Ancient Japanese word that generally translates to ball or waving ball.

In this great work, Kitaro presents his signature sounds blended with unique visuals for our contemplation and imagination.

This special one night musical performance was filmed in Nigata, Japan at night, under a Full Moon Story, on the water, and choreographed by Koichi Tamano with The Harupin-Ha Butoh Dance Theater who brings the characters of the story to life.

(Butoh Dance typically involves playful and grotesque imagery, taboo topics, extreme or absurd environments, and is traditionally performed in white body make-up with slow hyper-controlled motion, with or without an audience. There is no set style, and it may be purely conceptual with no movement at all. Its origins have been attributed to Japanese dance legends Tatsumi Hijikata and Kazuo Ohno.)

Kitaro transcends his audience into an ethereal world that offers the listener, or viewer, an artful look at what the lives of these characters are. In this world, very surreal events and circumstances materialize.

As Kitaro notes, “Through my work on Tamayura, I hope that we all awaken in a manner which will help us to realize something individually personal. I'd like everyone who enjoys Tamayura to take from this event something that makes us all feel different.”
